Pictured here are the operating table and head coil assembly for the Intraoperative MRI installed by the National Research Council at the Seaman Centre, Foothills Hospital, Calgary, AB. In order accommodate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) during the course of neurosurgical operations it was necessary for F. A. Roberts & Associates Ltd to design an operating table and head coil supporting structure which would neither distort nor be impacted by the high magnetic fields generated by a large MRI magnet which travelled to and from the operating theater.
The structure of the table is welded titanium while the head coil is fibre composite. All components were required facilitate sterilization processes.
